Traveling to Chile

Post by the editor:  We received a collect call from Elder Tonkinson at 12:40 pm (CT) and talked with him for about an hour.  He sounded excellent.  We recorded some of the call so that he could share a message with Nathan and Gideon (his younger brothers), who were in school at the time.  He talked with Addie as well.

At 6:45 PM, he was able to call from Atlanta and talk with Nathan and Gideon.  The call lasted about 15 minutes, and we got off so he could find some food and get settled before the long plane ride.  We tracked the flights on flightstats.com, and we were most pleased to see that controlled landings equaled take-offs.

Today, we received a note from the executive secretary of the mission, Elder Greer:

“Dear Tonkinson Family,

We would like to thank you for supporting your son and for allowing him to serve in the Chile Viña del Mar Mission.  We want you to know that he is doing very well and enjoyed the first day here.  We are very blessed to have such a great young man and look forward to serving along with him.  Upon arriving, he took a picture with President and Sister Gillespie in front of the famous flower clock here in Viña del Mar.  Attached is the picture which you may share with family and friends.”

So, everything is good, and we are excitedly awaiting Elder Tonkinson’s next communication.
